BIS Certifications
CRS, ISI domestic & foreign manufacturers, Scheme X, BEE
Full Guide
What is BIS CRS and which products need it?
BIS CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme, formally “Scheme II”) is the mandatory registration route for notified electronics and IT products, spanning 60+ categories including laptops, mobile phones, power banks, LED products, routers and monitors. It runs on self-declaration and lab test reports, with no mandatory factory inspection.
How is ISI Domestic different from ISI FMCD?
ISI Domestic (Scheme I) applies when your factory is based in India and involves a factory audit plus ongoing surveillance. ISI FMCD (the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme) is the same ISI mark for factories outside India, audited abroad through an Authorised Indian Representative.
What’s changed in BIS compliance for 2026?
BIS has tightened traceability between registered models, test reports and market samples, brought standalone hard disk drives under mandatory registration from November 2026, and is migrating many IT/AV categories to the newer IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 safety standard.
Does BIS CRS involve a factory inspection?
No — CRS runs on self-declaration and accredited lab test reports, unlike ISI (Scheme I) or FMCS, which both require a factory audit.
Product Testing
Electrical, chemical, EMC and medical device testing
Full Guide
What kind of testing does my product actually need?
It depends on your certification pathway — BIS CRS typically needs electrical safety testing, WPC/ETA needs RF testing, and medical devices need biocompatibility testing. We map the exact tests required once we know your target certification.
Do you test in-house or use external labs?
We coordinate testing through NABL/ILAC-accredited third-party laboratories matched to your product category, rather than running an in-house lab — this keeps results independently credible to regulators.
Can you test against a client’s own internal specification?
Yes — client specification testing is a standard offering alongside standards-based testing, useful when a buyer has additional requirements beyond the regulatory minimum.
How long does testing typically take?
It varies significantly by test type and lab queue — simple electrical safety tests can turn around in days, while comprehensive EMC or medical device testing can take several weeks. We build testing time into your overall certification timeline upfront.
GeM & Tender Services
OEM and reseller onboarding on the Government e-Marketplace
Full Guide
Do I need an Indian company to register on GeM?
Not necessarily to register as an OEM, but you’ll typically need an Indian entity — your own or an appointed reseller’s — to fulfil and deliver orders, since transactions run on Indian GST and banking rails.
What is the RITES vendor assessment?
A mandatory third-party review of an OEM’s manufacturing capability, quality systems and financial standing, conducted through RITES Ltd, required before certain OEM listings are approved on GeM.
What’s the difference between OEM and reseller registration?
OEM registration lets you list under your own brand and issue authorization codes to distributors. Reseller registration is for entities selling another brand’s products using an OEM-issued code — the standard route for overseas manufacturers without an India entity.
Does a GeM listing replace product certification requirements?
No — GeM listing and certifications like BIS or WPC are entirely separate requirements. Your product still needs whatever certification applies to it regardless of sales channel.
Trademark & IP
Trademark, patent and copyright filing and defense
Full Guide
I already hold a trademark abroad — do I still need to file in India?
Yes. Trademark rights are territorial, so a foreign registration grants no automatic protection in India — you’ll need a separate Indian filing.
What’s the difference between TM and the ® symbol?
“TM” can be used the moment you’re using a mark commercially, even pre-registration. “®” may legally only be used once the mark is formally registered with the Trade Marks Registry.
What happens if someone opposes my trademark application?
During journal publication, any third party can file an opposition. We handle the counter-statement and represent you through proceedings — most applications that reach this stage still register, though the timeline extends.
Should I file a patent before or after launching my product?
Before, wherever possible — public disclosure before filing can jeopardize novelty, a core patentability requirement. A provisional filing is a fast way to lock in a priority date ahead of launch.
LMPC Registration
Legal metrology packaging & labelling compliance
Full Guide
My product already has BIS certification — do I still need LMPC?
Yes. BIS certifies technical safety; LMPC governs what’s declared on the packaging (MRP, net quantity, origin). They run on entirely separate rules, and one doesn’t substitute for the other.
Can I just add a sticker to my existing global packaging?
In most cases yes — a compliant sticker declaring the required India-specific information is an accepted route, provided it’s legible, permanent and doesn’t obscure existing information.
Do e-commerce-only products need LMPC compliance too?
Yes — packaged goods sold online are subject to the same mandatory declarations as products sold in physical retail.
Is LMPC registration a one-time process?
Importer registration is typically one-time for pan-India sale, but every new product variant or label redesign needs to be re-checked against current declaration requirements before launch.
EPR Authorizations
E-waste, plastic, battery, tyre and used-oil producer responsibility
Full Guide
Do I need EPR if I only import, not manufacture, in India?
Yes. EPR obligations apply to producers, importers and brand owners alike — the rules don’t exempt importers, since responsibility follows whoever places the product on the market.
Can one authorization cover both e-waste and battery EPR?
No — e-waste, battery, plastic, tyre and used-oil EPR are governed by separate rules with their own registration and reporting, even for a single product.
What is a PRO and do I need one?
A Producer Responsibility Organisation handles the physical collection and recycling logistics on your behalf. Most brands work with a PRO rather than building in-house infrastructure.
Is EPR a one-time registration or does it renew?
Registration itself is typically one-time per category, but it comes with an ongoing obligation — annual targets to meet and yearly returns to file for as long as the product stays on the market.
MOEF License
Import/export permission for hazardous & recyclable materials
Full Guide
Does this replace my DGFT import/export documentation?
No — MOEF permission is an additional requirement on top of standard DGFT and customs documentation.
Can I import hazardous waste samples for testing without a license?
Yes, in most cases — samples up to 1000 grams or 1000 millilitres imported for testing or R&D are exempt from the full permission requirement.
Is import for disposal ever permitted?
No — MOEF permission only ever covers material entering India for recycling, reuse, refurbishment or co-processing. Import for disposal is prohibited outright, regardless of category.
What ongoing obligations come with the license once granted?
You’re required to maintain records in Form 3 and file an annual return in Form 4 with the State Pollution Control Board, typically by June 30 following the fiscal year.
FSSAI License
Basic, State and Central food business licensing
Full Guide
What changed with FSSAI thresholds in 2026?
Effective April 1, 2026, Basic Registration now covers turnover up to ₹1.5 crore (up from ₹12 lakh), State License covers ₹1.5 Cr–₹50 Cr, and Central License applies above ₹50 crore — all significantly higher than before.
Do I need a Central License just because I import food ingredients?
Yes — food importers require a Central License regardless of turnover, since import carries additional regulatory oversight.
Do I need a separate license for each outlet?
Generally yes. FSSAI approval is tied to the specific business premises, not the brand, so each kitchen, outlet or warehouse typically needs its own registration assessed on that unit’s activity.
I sell food through an app from a home kitchen — what tier applies?
In most cases, Basic Registration, provided turnover stays under ₹1.5 crore and the business operates from a single state.
ISO Certificates
Management-system certification, not product certification
Full Guide
Is ISO certification mandatory to sell in India?
Generally no — ISO standards certify your management systems, not your product’s legal right to be sold. That said, many GeM tenders and B2B buyers treat a relevant certificate as a practical prerequisite, and CDSCO’s medical device pathway specifically expects ISO 13485.
Which ISO standard applies to my business?
ISO 9001 (Quality) suits almost any business. ISO 14001 (Environment) and 45001 (Safety) matter most for factories. ISO 13485 is medical-device-specific, 22000 covers food safety, and 20000-1 applies to IT service management.
Can Bizpro both certify us and act as our consultant?
We work as your implementation partner, preparing documentation and coordinating the certification audit — but the audit itself is always conducted by an independent accredited certification body, which is what gives it credibility.
How long does ISO certification take and how often is it renewed?
First-time certification typically takes a few weeks to a few months depending on process maturity. Certificates run on a 3-year cycle, with annual surveillance audits in between.
Non-Compliance Certifications
FCC, FDA, HACCP, HALAL, AIOTA, Organic, RoHS for export markets
Full Guide
Does “non-compliance” mean my product isn’t compliant?
No — it’s a category label meaning these sit outside India’s mandatory schemes (BIS, WPC, CDSCO). Your product can be fully compliant in India while still needing one of these for a specific export market.
I already have BIS CRS — do I still need RoHS or FCC?
Yes, if exporting. BIS CRS only confirms Indian compliance — FCC and RoHS are separate, destination-market-specific certifications for the US and EU.
How do I know which certifications my product needs?
It comes down to product category and target market — electronics exporters to the US/EU typically need FCC and RoHS; food exporters to the Gulf typically need HACCP and HALAL.
Are these certifications one-time or do they need renewal?
It varies — some are tied to a product model and don’t expire unless the design changes, while others like HACCP and Organic require periodic re-audits.

Company incorporation, trade codes and admin registrations
Full Guide
What’s the actual difference between IEC and AD Code?
IEC is the baseline DGFT registration that makes you eligible to trade at all. The AD Code, issued by your bank, is what customs needs to process your specific shipping bills — you need the IEC first.
Is a Digital Signature Certificate a one-time purchase?
No — DSCs are typically valid for one to three years and need renewal. Since many other filings depend on a valid DSC, we track its expiry alongside your other registrations.
Do I need NSIC registration if I already have Udyam/MSME registration?
They serve different purposes — Udyam establishes general MSME eligibility, while NSIC’s Single Point Registration specifically unlocks tender fee waivers and EMD exemptions. Most MSEs pursuing government tenders hold both.
Can I switch business structures later, say Sole Proprietorship to Pvt Ltd?
Yes, a common growth step — it requires fresh incorporation as the new entity type and transferring assets and registrations across, so it’s worth planning early if you expect to scale.

Full Guide
I’m not sure which certifications my product needs — where do I start?
Share your product category, core technology and target launch date through our contact form. We map every applicable regulation — across all 11 categories above — into a single compliance blueprint before any filing begins.
How long does a typical multi-certification engagement take?
It depends entirely on the product. Simpler single-certification products can clear in weeks; complex electronics needing BIS, WPC and EPR together commonly take several months. We sequence approvals by dependency so unrelated ones don’t wait behind each other.
Is my product and business information kept confidential?
Yes — specifications and business details are used solely to process your filings, and we’re glad to sign an NDA before deeper technical review if required.
What happens if a regulation changes after I’m already certified?
We monitor notifications relevant to your registered products — like the 2026 FSSAI threshold changes or BIS’s IS/IEC 62368-1 migration — and flag renewal or re-testing needs before they become compliance gaps.
