BIS CRS registration in India — from lab test to R-number.
Electronics, IT, LED lighting, batteries and solar products on the BIS compulsory list can’t be made, imported or sold in India without a CRS registration. We take Indian and overseas manufacturers from lab testing to an issued R-number, and act as your Authorised Indian Representative when you need one.
What BIS CRS Covers
The Compulsory Registration Scheme is run by the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Products are notified by MeitY, by MNRE for solar PV, and by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. A notified product can’t be made, imported, stored for sale or sold in India without the BIS Standard Mark and its R-number.
Who Must Register
The manufacturing factory, for each brand it makes, whether it’s in India or overseas. Brand owners and importers are covered through the factory that makes their product, and marketplaces ask for a valid R-number before listing notified goods.
How Approval Works
CRS runs on self-declaration. Your product is tested at a BIS-recognised lab, you declare that production matches the tested sample, and BIS grants the licence without a routine factory audit. A single product typically clears in 4–8 weeks.

Recently added to BIS CRS
New categories and revised standards are notified every year. These are the latest changes to the list.
Television Sets Mandatory from 26 Jul 2026
Television sets now come under the new IS 18112:2025. Existing TV registrations under IS 616:2017 should be checked against the new standard before renewal or before adding new models.
Extended Reality Products Mandatory from 5 Dec 2025
AR, VR and mixed reality headsets and glasses now need registration under IS/IEC 62368-1:2023. Most also need WPC ETA approval for their wireless modules, which we file in parallel.
BIS CRS registration in five tracked stages
These follow the steps on the BIS portal. We run each one, so your team only ships samples and signs documents.
Scope & Standard
We confirm your product is notified, identify the exact IS standard and version, and plan series testing so the fewest samples cover the most models.
Day 1–2Portal Login & Test Request
The factory is registered on the BIS portal with its business licence in English, and a test request is raised with a BIS-recognised lab.
Day 2–6Samples & Lab Testing
Samples reach the lab within 60 days of the test request. The lab tests to the Indian Standard and issues the report, which we check before you verify it.
Week 1–5Application Filing
Filed within 90 days of the test report, with the undertaking of conformity, brand documents and AIR papers for overseas factories.
Week 5–6Grant & Marking
BIS grants the licence with your R-number. Products and packaging carry the Standard Mark before import or sale, and we track renewal dates.
Week 6–8What you’ll need, and what BIS charges
The exact checklist depends on your product and factory. Government fees are fixed by BIS and paid on the portal.

BIS CRS for factories outside India
A factory outside India applies for BIS CRS in its own name, the same as an Indian factory, but must appoint an Authorised Indian Representative (AIR). The AIR is resident in India, signs the undertaking alongside the manufacturer and is BIS’s point of contact for the life of the registration.
We work with factories in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Europe and the United States. We plan sample shipping, coordinate with the Indian lab and run the portal in English, so you don’t need anyone on the ground in India.
Within India, we support manufacturers and importers in Delhi NCR, Noida, Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and every other state.
Bizpro as Your AIR
We can act as your Authorised Indian Representative, so you don’t need an Indian entity to register.
- BIS correspondence handled in India
- Renewal and inclusion dates tracked
- Market surveillance queries answered for you
Why BIS CRS applications get held up
Most rejections and resubmissions come from a handful of avoidable mistakes.
Test Report Expires
The application has to be filed within 90 days of the report. Missing documents at that stage can mean testing again.
Brand Name Mismatch
The brand on the label, test report, trademark papers and application must match exactly, including spelling and spacing.
Wrong Standard Version
Some products, like TVs and UPS units, now accept a newer standard. Testing to the wrong one wastes weeks.
Licence Without Manufacturing
A trading licence, or one without the factory address, is rejected at portal login.
Wireless Approval Forgotten
CRS covers safety only. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi products also need WPC ETA, or customs will still hold them.
Marking Applied Wrongly
The Standard Mark with the R-number must follow BIS labelling guidelines on the product and the packaging.
