Method Not in Scope

The lab must hold the exact ASTM method in its accreditation scope for the report to carry the logo.

Superseded Method Year

Specifications sometimes fix a method year; testing to a different edition can be rejected.

Wrong Specimen Type

Specimen geometry and orientation change results. Agree them with the buyer first.

No Acceptance Criteria

ASTM methods say how to test, not what passes. The limits must come from your specification.

Common questions about astm testing

What is ASTM testing?

ASTM testing means testing a material or product to a method published by ASTM International, such as ASTM E8 for tensile testing of metals or ASTM B117 for salt spray. ASTM methods are used worldwide in purchase specifications, export contracts and tenders.

Are ASTM test reports accepted in India?

Yes, where the buyer, tender or specification calls for an ASTM method. For BIS certification, the Indian Standard's own test method applies. We confirm which method your customer or authority expects before testing.

What's the difference between ASTM and IS test methods?

Many Indian Standards have equivalent or similar test methods, but sample size, conditioning, speed and reporting can differ. If a specification names ASTM, test to ASTM; using an IS method instead can lead to rejection.

Can you arrange salt spray testing to ASTM B117?

Yes. We arrange neutral salt spray testing to ASTM B117 for coatings, plating and finished parts, for durations such as 48, 96, 240 or 1,000 hours, with photographs and rating as the specification requires.

How long does ASTM testing take?

Mechanical tests such as tensile, hardness and impact usually take three to seven working days. Salt spray and weathering depend on the hours specified, and packaging tests depend on the distribution cycle.

Do you test to ISO and EN methods as well?

Yes. Many labs that test to ASTM also hold ISO, EN, IS and DIN methods in their scope. Tell us the method in your specification and we'll match the lab.
