BEE + BIS

Two approvals, planned together

BIS certifies safety. BEE certifies energy performance. For most mandatory appliances you need both before the first sale.

BIS ISI Appliances

ACs, refrigerators, deep freezers, washing machines, ceiling fans, geysers, distribution transformers and LPG stoves need an ISI licence. See ISI.

BIS CRS Appliances

Colour and UHD TVs, LED lamps, grid-connected solar inverters and induction hobs need BIS CRS registration. See CRS.

One Test Plan

Where labs allow, we line up BIS and BEE testing on the same samples and timeline, so you’re not waiting on one approval to start the other.

Avoid Penalties

What goes wrong with mandatory appliances

Selling Before Permission

Affixing or selling with no label, a counterfeit label or a look-alike label leads to deposit forfeiture and a one-year suspension of the model registration.

Online Listings Without Label

The label must be visible at e-commerce points of sale too. BEE can have marketplaces delist the model.

Missing Rating Revisions

When star tables change, a self-declaration is due within 60 days and old-standard production must stop.

Unpaid Label Fees

Quarterly fees unpaid for a year can cancel all labels and see your name published as a defaulter.

Check Test Failure

A failed second test means public notice, stock withdrawal and penalties, with the costs of retesting on you.

No Authorised Seller List

The list of authorised sellers is due by 30 April every year.

Quick Answers

Common questions about BEE mandatory appliances

Frost-free and direct cool refrigerators, deep freezers, room ACs (fixed and variable speed, cassette, tower, ceiling and corner), light commercial ACs, chillers, ceiling fans, electric storage water heaters, colour and UHD televisions, washing machines, self-ballasted LED lamps, distribution transformers, grid-connected solar inverters and domestic LPG stoves. Induction hobs become mandatory on 1 January 2027.
No. Mandatory appliances must carry a valid BEE star label with permission from the Bureau. Selling without a label, or with a counterfeit or altered one, can lead to forfeiture of the security deposit, a one-year suspension of the model registration and penalties.
From 1 January 2027, according to the BEE Star Label portal. Until then they can be labelled voluntarily, and registering early means stock already in the market is compliant when the rule takes effect.
It's set per appliance in Schedule A of the 2026 regulations, for example ₹15 per refrigerator, ₹30 per room AC or washing machine, ₹2 per ceiling fan, ₹10 per colour TV and ₹10 per 100 LED lamps. Fees are paid quarterly, and prepaid with QR code requests from 1 April 2027.
Most do. ACs, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, ceiling fans, geysers, transformers and LPG stoves need the BIS ISI mark, while TVs, LED lamps, solar inverters and induction hobs need BIS CRS registration.
Yes. The 2026 regulations require the label to appear on every registered unit at both online and offline points of sale, and BEE can direct e-commerce platforms to delist non-compliant models.
BEE informs permittees of the revised standards. You then submit a self-declaration within 60 days, or before the label series validity ends, confirming compliance and relabelling, and stop producing units under the expired standards.
Yes. The company that imports or sells the appliance in India registers with BEE. The label must show the country of origin, and imported models are subject to the same check testing.
