Railway / RDSO

RDSO testing for Indian Railways vendors

Vendors supplying Indian Railways must get products registered with RDSO (or the relevant vendor approving authority), and that starts with type testing. We plan the tests and the lab so the reports count.

Type tests in RDSO’s order of preference RDSO QO-D-8.1-10

RDSO’s vendor sample type testing procedure prefers RDSO’s own lab, then a government or NABL-accredited lab, then other government-accredited labs where capacity is lacking, and the firm’s own premises only with the vendor approving authority’s approval.

Accreditation RDSO accepts ISO/IEC 17025

Outside labs must be accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by a government-controlled body that is a signatory to the ILAC mutual recognition arrangement, which NABL is.

Tested to the RDSO specification Spec + drawing

Testing follows the item’s RDSO specification and schedule of technical requirements, often with IEC, EN 50155, EN 50121 or IS standards called up inside it, so the test plan has to read the specification clause by clause.

Witnessed and recorded Vendor registration

RDSO may witness tests and asks for critical parameters to be recorded. Failed samples need a technical explanation or corrective action before retesting.

How It Works

Your electrical testing in five steps

Most delays come from the wrong standard edition, a lab without the right scope, or missing samples. We fix those before testing starts.

1

Standard & Test Plan

We confirm exactly which standard, clauses and tests apply, and why: certification, tender, export or customer approval.

Day 1
2

Lab & Fixed Quote

We choose a lab whose accreditation scope covers your tests and send one written quote with cost and turnaround.

Day 1–3
3

Samples & Documents

You send samples, datasheets and any drawings or specs. We check quantities so testing isn’t held up.

Day 3–7
4

Testing & Updates

The lab tests to the plan. Early failures are flagged straight away so you can fix and retest quickly. Witnessing on request.

Report Review

We check the report against the standard and the authority it’s for before you submit it, then help with the next filing.

Why Bizpro

Why manufacturers use us for electrical testing

Right Lab, First Time

We match your tests to a lab whose accreditation scope actually covers them, so the report is accepted by BIS, TEC, CDSCO, RDSO, a buyer or a tender committee.

One Point of Contact

Test plan, quotes, samples, follow-ups and report review are handled by one specialist, not passed between lab departments.

Testing Linked to Certification

Reports are planned for the approval you need next, from BIS and TEC to CE and FCC, so you don’t pay to test twice.

Pan-India Support

Avoid Retests

Common electrical testing mistakes

Lab Without the Right Scope

A NABL certificate isn’t enough: the specific standard and clause must be in the lab’s accreditation scope.

Old Standard Edition

BIS and tenders call up specific editions and amendments. Testing to an older one can mean starting again.

Untested Critical Components

Transformers, capacitors, fuses and plastics need their own approvals or tests inside the product test.

Too Few Samples

Destructive and abnormal tests use up samples. Sending one unit stalls the test.

Quick Answers

Common questions about electrical testing

Electrical testing checks that an electrical or electronic product is safe and performs as its standard requires: insulation and dielectric strength, leakage current, temperature rise, protection against electric shock, abnormal operation, fire resistance and markings, plus performance tests such as efficiency or accuracy.
For BIS certification, testing must be done at BIS's own labs or BIS-recognised labs, which are NABL-accredited for the relevant standard. We check the lab's BIS recognition and scope before samples are sent.
IEC 62368-1, adopted in India as IS 13252 (Part 1), is the hazard-based safety standard for audio, video, IT and communication equipment such as adapters, chargers, laptops and monitors. It's the standard behind most BIS CRS registrations.
Yes. We arrange type testing of railway electrical and electronic items to their RDSO specifications at RDSO, government or NABL-accredited labs, in the order of preference set by RDSO's vendor type testing procedure, and support vendor registration.
MIL-STD-810H is the US defence standard for environmental testing, covering temperature, humidity, altitude, vibration, shock, salt fog, sand and dust, rain and more. It's often required for defence, rugged and outdoor electronics in India alongside JSS 55555.
Simple tests such as hi-pot or IP rating can take a few days. A full safety evaluation to IEC 62368-1 or IEC 60335 usually takes two to four weeks, depending on the lab queue and whether samples pass first time.
It depends on the standard and tests. Safety testing usually needs two to three samples plus spare parts such as transformers or PCBs; some destructive or endurance tests need more. We confirm quantities before dispatch.
For BIS, generally no: testing must be done at BIS-recognised labs in India. For buyers, tenders and some other authorities, ILAC-accredited reports from abroad may be accepted, and we check before you spend money on fresh testing.
