Avoid Problems

Common GeM reseller mistakes

Listing Q1 or Q2 Without Authority

Q1 is OEM-only and Q2 needs the OEM’s authorization code.

No Chain Documents

Unverified resellers must prove the goods came from the OEM’s authorised channel.

Wrong Catalogue

Pairing with a catalogue for a different model or spec causes rejections and buyer complaints.

Stale Price and Stock

Out-of-date offers lead to order cancellations and lower vendor rating.

Quick Answers

Common questions about GeM reseller registration

Yes. Traders, dealers and distributors register on GeM as sellers and list products as resellers. What they can sell depends on the product category’s quadrant: resellers can’t sell Q1 products, need an OEM authorization code for Q2, need OEM approval for their first pairing in a Q3 category, and can pair freely in Q4.
A reseller on GeM is a seller offering products manufactured by another company (the OEM). Resellers usually pair their offer with the OEM’s catalogue and set their own price, stock and delivery locations.
No, vendor assessment is mandatory only for OEMs. Resellers can optionally get a VA to validate their OEM authorisation, but GeM processes it only if the OEM holds a valid OEM dashboard.
Ask the OEM or its channel team for GeM authorisation. In Q2 categories the OEM uploads authorization codes on its OEM dashboard and you enter yours while pairing. In Q3 categories your first pairing in the category, with your authorization code, goes to the OEM for approval.
In Q3 and Q4 categories, yes, but your stock is flagged ‘Reseller – Not Verified by OEM’ and you must give an undertaking to source from the OEM’s authorised channel and provide chain documents on delivery. In Q1 and Q2 categories, no.
In Q3 and Q4, if the OEM hasn’t created one, yes. The catalogue goes to the OEM first, who must approve or reject it within 72 hours. Reseller catalogues not approved by the OEM are flagged ‘Catalogue not verified by OEM’.
If you start manufacturing or own the brand, you can apply for OEM vendor assessment. Once approved, you take over OEM dashboard privileges for your existing catalogues as well.
