Quick Answers

Common questions about certificates of origin

A document certifying the country where goods were produced. Importing countries use it for customs, trade statistics and, under trade agreements, to grant lower duty.
A non-preferential CoO simply proves Indian origin. A preferential CoO is issued under a free trade agreement and lets the importer claim reduced or zero duty if the goods meet that agreement's rules of origin.
Online on DGFT's eCoO platform (Trade Connect). Non-preferential e-filing there is mandatory since 1 January 2025.
Yes. DGFT enabled electronic certificates of origin for the India–UK CETA on the Trade Connect portal in July 2026.
A non-preferential certificate for goods of another country that are re-exported, trans-shipped or traded through India, issued on the basis of the original country's documents.
