Common GeM registration mistakes

Name Mismatches

Business name, PAN, GST and bank records must match exactly, or validation fails.

ITR Not Updated

ITR can be updated on GeM only two days after filing. Without it you can’t bid.

Wrong Seller Role

Listing your own products as a reseller loses OEM privileges and buyer trust.

Images and MRP Proof

Catalogues are rejected for non-compliant images or MRP not backed by packaging or an OEM letter.

Quick Answers

Common questions about GeM registration

GeM registration is creating a seller or service provider account on the Government e Marketplace (GeM), the Government of India’s online procurement portal. Once registered and validated, you can list products or services, receive direct orders and take part in bids and reverse auctions from government buyers.
Yes. There’s no fee to register on GeM. GeM has also discontinued caution money for sellers and service providers, and sellers who deposited it earlier can withdraw it from their dashboard. Fees apply only later: an annual milestone charge and transaction charges once you’re doing business.
Under GeM’s Revenue Policy v1.6 (from 26 August 2025), a seller pays a one-time Annual Milestone Charge of ₹10,000 plus taxes when its orders cross ₹20 lakh in a financial year. After that, orders above ₹10 lakh carry 0.30% of the order value, capped at a flat ₹3,00,000 for orders of ₹10 crore or more. Orders up to ₹10 lakh carry no transaction charge.
The authorised person’s Aadhaar or personal PAN with linked mobile, business PAN, CIN for companies, date of incorporation, ITR details for the last three years, bank account and IFSC, registered office address and GSTIN. MSEs add their Udyam number and startups their DPIIT number.
GSTIN is needed for billing. GeM’s pre-requisites state that without GSTIN a seller can’t accept orders above ₹2.5 lakh.
Verified ITR details are mandatory to take part in bids and reverse auctions, unless the entity was incorporated less than 24 months ago or is exempt from filing ITR. ITR isn’t needed if you only want direct orders.
If you want to sell your own manufactured products as an OEM, yes: OEMs must complete vendor assessment by RITES or qualify for an exemption. Resellers don’t need it in most cases but need OEM authorisation for Q2 and Q3 categories. Service providers go through Validation of Service Provider.
Account creation and profile validation can be done in a day or two if PAN, Aadhaar, ITR, GST and bank details match. Catalogue approval takes about 3 working days per request, and OEM vendor assessment about 15 working days.
Yes. Udyam-registered MSEs and DPIIT-recognised startups are validated through government databases and can avail purchase preference and relaxations that buyers apply in bids under public procurement policies. MSEs accounted for 44.79% of GeM order value in the current financial year, according to GeM’s statistics page.
