GeM Authorization Code

GeM authorization codes, set up for OEMs and resellers.

In Q2 and Q3 categories, resellers can only sell a brand on GeM with the OEM’s authorisation. We get OEMs their GeM OEM dashboard and authorization code setup, and help resellers obtain and use codes so their catalogue pairing goes through first time.

Authorization Codes Explained

Why authorization codes exist

Protects the Brand

Only resellers the OEM authorises can sell its Q2 products, so buyers get genuine goods with warranty support.

Speeds Up Resellers

With a valid code, Q2 pairings are auto-approved, and Q3 pairings after the first in a category too.

Needs an OEM Dashboard

The OEM must hold GeM OEM status, through brand approval and vendor assessment or exemption, to issue codes.

Common authorization code issues

OEM Without a Dashboard

If the OEM has no dashboard, Q2 codes can’t be issued and reseller VA is rejected.

Wrong Category

Codes and approvals are category-specific. A code in one category doesn’t cover another.

Pending OEM Requests

OEMs ignoring reseller requests for 72 hours get their own uploads held.

Selling Q2 Without a Code

Q2 products can only be offered by pre-authorised resellers.

Quick Answers

Common questions about GeM authorization code

A GeM authorization code is a code an OEM issues through its OEM dashboard so its authorised resellers can be recognised on GeM. Under GeM’s quadrant policy, OEMs upload authorization codes for Q2 categories, and resellers enter them when pairing with the OEM’s catalogue.
The OEM. It needs an OEM dashboard on GeM, which comes with brand approval and vendor assessment (VA) or an exemption (VAE). GeM doesn’t issue codes to resellers directly.
The reseller pairs its offer with the OEM’s existing catalogue and enters the code. In Q2 categories the pairing is then auto-approved. In Q3 categories the reseller’s first pairing in that category, with its code, goes to the OEM dashboard for approval; later pairings in the same category with the same code are auto-approved.
Usually because the OEM hasn’t set up its OEM dashboard on GeM, hasn’t added you as an authorised channel partner, or the category doesn’t use codes (Q4). We can help the OEM get its dashboard or help you show your dealership to the OEM’s channel team.
No. In Q4 resellers can pair with existing catalogues without OEM approval. If the OEM has a dashboard, it can see paired resellers and mark some as verified, but it can’t remove them.
OEMs must approve or reject a reseller-created catalogue within 72 hours, with reasons for rejection. If they don’t, their own product uploads are held until pending requests are cleared.
OEMs manage their authorised resellers through the OEM dashboard in Q2 and Q3. Under the quadrant policy, an OEM can’t remove resellers in Q4 but can raise an incident against a reseller.
