Quick Answers

Common questions about organic certification

Organic products exported from India must be certified under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) by an accredited certification body, and each export needs a Transaction Certificate, under DGFT Public Notice 39/2024-25 of 5 January 2025.
The 8th edition of NPOP was launched in January 2025 with revised standards, including changes for grower groups and stronger traceability. It applies after the transition period set by DGFT.
No. Under the FSSAI Organic Foods Regulations, 2017, food sold as organic must be certified under NPOP or PGS-India and carry the Jaivik Bharat logo, with exemptions only for small original producers selling directly to consumers.
Not on its own for all products. The US requires USDA NOP certification from a USDA-accredited certifier, and the EU requires certification by a recognised control body under EU organic rules. We plan certification for each market.
Farms need a conversion period, which depends on the crop (usually two to three years). Processors and traders can be certified in a few months once their suppliers are certified.
